The Heart Club is a community at school where their main focus is bringing fun events that are focused on good deeds around VMHS to spread kindness and support during and after school hours. The club is sponsored by Patriot counselors Mrs. Ochoa, Mrs.Lima and Dr.Vargas.
”It’s all about making the school and community better while also getting to know each other and having a good time. We really want to unite our students and bring them together and promote positivity all around campus,” said Simone green, Heart club president. “I had found myself in a really dark time, and I was super alone. I didn’t have any other outlets or people to talk to/to connect to because we didn’t have any clubs that focused on mental health. So, when me and Mrs. Ochoa talked about making this club, I finally felt a sense of belonging.”
Green plans to help out other students and places such as nursing homes and homeless shelters. More plans to get creative with fundraisers, bake sales and community cleanups.
“Last year, during our STAAR activities we invited the Air Force Band to come out and play during breakfast. I met amazing people that day and I felt that morning a lot of people connected and had fun, ” Green explained.
Green expresses the impact the club has not only placed on her but the impact she has been able to place on others with the club. “Being a part of the Heart Club has given me the opportunity to connect with my teachers and admin around me, helped me reach out and make a bunch of new friends, and helped me get people out of their comfort zones a lot more! I would tell them to be themselves, and that we are all here for you. There are a ton of resources within our club and school, and we want to work on sharing that information with our fellow peers.”
Students are encouraged to join meetings which are every Thursday in the morning from 8:00 to 8:40 am in room H111. Students are welcomed to the community of kindness and beneficial outreach.
