As the calendar flipped to a new year, students of the Patriot Nation joined millions of Americans in making New Year’s resolutions. From improving grades to enhancing physical health, the aspirations of high schoolers are as diverse as they are ambitious.
For Junior Aja Vasquez, the new year represents a fresh start.
“I want to focus on self-care and prioritize my mental health,” Vasquez continues, “Last semester was really tough and I realized I need to take care of myself better.”
Vasquez’s resolution is echoed by many of her peers, who are seeking to strike a healthier balance between academics and personal well-being.
“I’m trying to get more sleep and exercise regularly,” said Junior, Allyson Carter. “I know it sounds cliché, but I really want to take care of my body this year.”
Other students are focusing on academic goals, such as Senior Ernesto Quintero, who’s resolved to improve his time management skills and boost his GPA.
“I know college applications are just around the corner and I want to make sure I’m prepared,” Quintero said.
While some students are aiming high, others are taking a more measured approach.
“My resolution is to simply be more present in the moment,” said Junior, Jacob Candelaria. “I tend to get caught up in my phone and social media, so I want to focus more on enjoying the little things in life. Such as simply spending time with friends and family.”
As the first few weeks of the new year begin, students are feeling optimistic about their resolutions.
“I know it’s easy to make promises to yourself, but I’m really committed to following through this year,” Candelaria stated.
Only time will tell if these students will be able to keep their resolutions, but for now, their enthusiasm and determination are remarkable. It’s a new year and anything is possible. Endless opportunities open up for the people of Patriot Nation.
