With the start of the new year and the results of the election months prior, it’s no surprise that Americans will see a returning president coming back to office. With the new term president, Donald J. Trump, will have to go through the process of Inauguration Day on Jan. 20. The event will be hosted at The U.S. Capitol building in Washington, DC.
The President isn’t the only one who swears the oath of office, the Vice President is commonly the first to swear in before the President, who swears the oath around noon. This is the process of transferring power between a former president to a current one.
Both the Vice President and the President follow the same oath, as many presidents before them have done so. Each Vice President and President, have their own oath, along with their own version.
The Inauguration Oath for the Vice President goes as follows: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
