Senior Jeasean Jones goes in for two against Alamo Heights HS.

The Patriot Varsity basketball teams’ season is underway, and there is a lot of parody in the 5A division. Last week, the Patriots defeated the former #1 ranked Alamo Heights HS in a much-needed and hard-fought victory, 43-37. The players play confidently and rigorously throughout their 15-11 start.

“The season has been pretty fun overall, we’ve done pretty good. We still have room to improve just like every other team,” said Joshua Neal senior forward/center. “A really great win against Alamo Heights. That was a big win for us. It feels great to win that game, but we need to focus on the games coming up.”

According to Neal, this season is an ’emotional one’. He says the rest of the season will be dedicated to the outgoing seniors. Some input indicates that the Patriots are not exceeding expectations because of their energy and motivation.

“We could be closer, we could have more energy, more hustle in us, too. Better team comradery will definitely help,” says Lorenzo Gould senior forward/center.

The Patriots are mostly looking forward to the rivalry game versus Wagner HS. They know the crowd will be anticipating a tough game from the team.

“We gotta be prepared for that game. I feel we just gotta be focused, locked-in and we’ll be good. I think we can beat them because it was a close game last time.” said Neal.

The Patriots are looking forward to the end of the season and the post-season, where they hope to make it far in the playoffs. Game by game, they will always be prepared, no matter the opponent. Patriot Nation is looking forward to a winning season and a playoff run. We will host the Wagner HS Thunderbirds on Friday, January 24 in a district rivalry game.
