Baseball Season Begins at VMHS

The 2025 baseball season began Jan. 17 with holding the team tryouts and beginning practice for Varsity returners. The team consists of 16 Varsity players and 21 JV players. The Varsity team, led by Rory Rivera and Graviel Aleman.

 The Varsity team consists of sophomore, Vijay Mata, sophomore, Joseph Ulrich,  senior, Julian Buenrostro,  senior, Evan Buenrostro,  junior, Dominic Bacile, junior, Alejandro Ocana,  senior, Yahir Ocana,  junior, Elijah Juarez,  junior, Victor Garcia,  junior, Cayden Cooper,  senior, Izik Hui,  senior, Isaac Hernandez,  junior, Noah Munoz, senior, Landen Delao, senior, Pierson Lehman and sophomore, Chris Anthony Ramos.

The JV squad is being led by coach, Thomas Walker and consists of sophomore, Charles Peper, senior, Collin Wagner,  junior, Fermin Sanchez,  junior, Brandon Mares,  junior, Josh Jennings,  freshman, Aiden Delgado,  freshman, Maddox Navarro,  freshman, Diego Macias,  freshman, Derek Negret Pereira ,  sophomore, Jeremy Rodriguez, freshman, Javier Banos, junior Tyler Dixon, sophomore Tyler Granado,  sophomore Travis lambrecht, junior Caden Makovsky, sophomore, Giovanni Martinez, freshman, Xavier Garcia, freshman, Jacob Mora,  junior, Paulo Padua,  freshman, Christian Sacriste and  freshman Joshua Delgado.  

The teams are also being led by a new coach, Rory Rivera, who’s working the team to secure a spot in the playoffs. Rivera comes from three previous head coach positions and plans to bring the team a new leader and a way to approach the season. Although the teams district competitors are some of the toughest in the state, Rivera is confident in his players abilities and is looking for at least nine district wins.

The teams’ energy and approach to the season is vicious and menacing as they are looking for redemption and will not back down against any tough team.

“Heading into every game we’re gonna be looking for blood and doing everything for the da** V,” said Junior, Elijah Juarez, referencing Veterans Memorial.

The first scrimmage of the season will be Saturday at 10 a.m. against Judson and later at 2 p.m. against Wagner at the VMHS baseball field. The baseball team is looking forward to starting off the season strong with two wins and their supporters there to watch them change the narrative of VMHS baseball.
