VMHS hosted a glow-in-the-dark pep rally on Thursday, Oct. 20th, to celebrate the upcoming football game.
Students and staff gathered in the gym during the fifth period, where the band was set up; cheerleaders were lined in bright, multi-colored neon shirts along with Liberty Belles and the Pep Squad, ready to greet incoming students.
Individuals allowed to come were required to be listed on an A honor roll, have perfect attendance, or were graduating seniors. Students were also encouraged to sign up for games when getting their tickets, which were announced to be picked up during all lunches throughout the week.
Members of the Student Council tossed candy into the bleachers filled with students, and glow sticks were passed around for students to wear. Multiple Pink Out shirts were thrown out into the stands for students who cheered and got the most attention from the members on the floor, while the cheerleaders and Liberty Belles gave admirable performances.
The glow-in-the-dark pep rally wasn’t what the student body had initially hoped for, but even though the lights had to be turned on due to a disruption, the students still enjoyed many activities.
Games included demonstrations by the cheerleaders and participation from the students in the stands. All students had to stay in the bleachers unless they were actively participating in a game. Games included musical chairs, throwing tubes onto posing cheerleaders to see how many could be stacked, relay races to notice how fast a student could be moved across a line of others, connecting into chains to pass a hula hoop through them, and jumping into other students’ arms when the music was paused.
