Patriots parade for Fiesta

Students celebrate with the city for Battle of the Flowers

Fiesta has been an ongoing celebration to commemorate the victory at San Jacinto and honor the heroes of the Alamo. According to fiestasanantonio.org, the first Battle of the Flowers parade featured horse-drawn carriages, bicycles decorated with fresh flowers and floats carrying children dressed as flowers. Today, Fiesta is celebrated from April 18 to 28, and the Battle of the Flowers parade has evolved into one of the oldest and largest celebrations here in San Antonio.

This year, different fine arts departments will participate in the parade to represent Patriot Nation. The VMHS Band will perform at its best, playing songs to lift the spirits of everyone in the crowd. They will play Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond and Evil Ways by Drake and J. Cole. Alongside them parading will be the Liberty Belles, Pep Squad, Color Guard and Cheer.

The patriots have worked hard to prepare for this event; for some, this is their first opportunity to participate.

Barbara Brunney, the dance instructor, said, “I am most excited to show off our school spirit and have our first parade experience as a dance program.”

The parade will be at night on Friday, April 26, when the Flambeau portion will be displayed. Students and families can come by to show off their patriotic spirit and support VMHS.
