Open House is an opportunity for parents to meet their student’s teachers, find out how to get in touch with them, as well as get a look into what their students are working on. All students and guardians had an opportunity on Wednesday, Aug 28 for the VMHS Open House, hosted in the auditorium that night.
Open House is first led by an introductory process: “Students and guardians will all meet in the auditorium first, where Dr. Arrendando will share information,” Associate Principal Harris-Stokes said. Then, “Parents will be allowed to walk around and meet the teachers,” Harris-Stokes continued.
Important topics pertaining to the class of 2025 were covered that evening. Special attention was paid to our soon-to-be graduates by having them visit campus with their parents and go over the process of building and organizing their future paths with Veterans resources.
“This year’s senior class needs to be preparing for graduation,” said Harris-Stokes. Information on signing up for financial aid or getting into their preferred college was covered.
Before the Open House, Senior Information Night was held at 5:30 p.m. “Students will be granted the chance to meet and speak with colleges they’re interested in, explore future opportunities on campus and discuss with live recruiters,” Harris-Stokes continues. For anyone interested in learning more about how and where to take their education, we expect to see hearty attendance tonight.”
Shortly after the Open House ended, the College Athletic recruitment seminar began at 7:30 for those who were interested. Students learned about the recruiting process, what requirements were needed, and eligibility.
“By the end of the day, we hope that guardians and parents will get to know the environment that their kids are in as well as any contact information provided by the teacher,” Harris-Stokes continues, “We also hope that the students will feel more comfortable within the class.”
“My experience was great! I learned which colleges had my majors and whether or not I would be interested. I really enjoyed and appreciated the ability to have a one-on-one conversation with each college counselor,” senior and Theatre Arts club president Madalyn Holstein said, assuring her positive experience with the visiting colleges.
