A new season is approaching, and brand new opportunities are blowing into Veterans Memorial. The art club was brought together by familiar art teachers Ruth Hui, Melissa Stewart and Caitlyn Gutierrez. The art club is composed of students who want to show off their creative activity. It gives students the chance to express their artistry and give light to their club.
The club organizes events such as volunteering in the community with participating VMHS feeder schools and having the opportunity to beautify Veterans. This year, a new Art Club branch is the National Art Honor Society, called NAHS. It’s a new opportunity for leadership roles and could be a new start for students to attain art scholarships. It gives countless options to help recognize and inspire students who have an interest and ability in art.
The sponsors have high hopes for the club’s and students’ future. “ Our goals are to have students contribute back to their community and do as much as they can to leave a mark at our school,” Hui explained.
NAHS members can attend meetings held twice a month, on the second Thursday of each month and the last from 4:35 to 5:30 p.m. Students should attend at least once per month if they are not able to attend both.
Art club members and NAHS must pay fees to help provide supplies and services for the club. These fees can be paid through myschoolbucks.com under the fine arts—art club / NAHS fee. If you are interested in NAHS fees, they will cover your membership in the chapter and NAHS activities. The Art club costs $20, and NAHS is $10. Students can also join the art club without having to join NAHS.
Veterans is a place for students to learn and express their talents and find a place to feel at home. With this club, VHMS hopes to encourage students to express and explore their artistry. If a student is interested in joining, the next meeting will be on Thursday, September 26, in room C211.
