Highlighting the celebration of Black History Month

As the month of February begins, the celebration of Black History Month arises. The annual Black History month celebrates the achievements, history and contributions of Black culture. The month serves as a time to honor the struggles, resilience and achievements from throughout the years.

Black History month was organized on the first day of February, 1976 by Carter G. Woodson, who was dedicated to creating a staple by celebrating the black community and industries. It started as a week-long celebration and eventually became its own month. A decade later, President Ronald Reagen recognized National Black History month in 1986.

Black History month has many great contributors to society, such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr. , Barack Obama, etc. These individuals educated others about equality and advocated that there shouldn’t be a barrier between a color, race, or ethnicity.

Martin Luther King, American minister and activist famously said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out only love can do that.” MLK believed that hating people is the worst case scenario or ‘stooping’ low and nobody should have the ability to hate. He helped many black people deserve their rights and freedom against people who were unfair to the culture.

Black history plays a lot of positive roles by focusing on the contributions of African Americans across the United states. Black History month is a strong reminder that many black civilians have important stories among them and to honor African Americans for their greatest achievements.
