The SkillUSA competition was a spontaneous and competitive competition where creative students created art to showcase their Graphic Design skills against many different schools in the state. The organization empowers students to become future workers, leaders, and responsibility.
One of the most dynamic and competitive areas within SkillsUSA is Graphic Design. This allows students to showcase their creativity, technical skills, and problem solving abilities in a fast-paced environment. This competition was held on April 2-April 5 and located at Corpus Christi. This competition does not only promote artistic skills, but also prepares students for a successful career in the future field of being a graphic designer. Participants can create varieties of art such as, designing logos, business cards, advertisements, digital illustration, etc. Students must demonstrate a strong understanding of design principles such as, typography, layouts, color theory, and branding.
Senior Danica Finn accomplished to make it to state with her creative artwork. One of the most valuable aspects of this competition is the highlighting professionalism. The contestants are judged on their final art also how they present themselves and communicate upon their design choice. Participating in SkillsUSA Graphic Design gives students a competitive edge throughout the 3 days of competition. They earn recognition, and possible scholarships or job offers if the art is valid. Most importantly, it gives students to push their creativity limits; overall a stepping stone toward a successful career in designing.
Senior/Graphic Designer Sinai Alejo Del a Vega quoted, “SkillsUSA helps me in the future as a designer by allowing me to perform and practice the skills within graphic design like organization, time management, communication and many others; as well as improving my creativity and experience.”. Overall Patriots in Graphic Design competed for a transformative experience. It prepares the students to excel their art pieces by combining creativity and career readiness. SkillsUSA helps shape the graphic designers that Patriots have at their fingertips!
