After Friday and Saturday’s wins against Veterans Memorial Corpus Christi and Vela Edinburg, the Patriots boy’s basketball team is officially state-bound for the second year in a row! The Patriots are looking to take care of unfinished business after falling short to Dallas Kimball last year who ultimately ended up winning the state championship.
The Patriots had plenty of nail-biters and close calls throughout this year’s playoffs having fought to get to where they are now, “This playoff run has been everything we could hope for leading to state. We faced adversity in every game and overcame it each time”, Senior Gervai Maeweathers said. Maeweathers then expressed how the team needs to have a different mindset coming into the big game that way they can get a different outcome, “The difference between this year and last year is we know how much small things are magnified when you play in the state tournament. Turnovers and free throws are crucial no matter when in the game. So this year we’re coming with a different mentality knowing it’s a lot of our last ride together.”
“We are fortunate to have a great group of young men that stay humble and hungry”, Steven Perez said. The Patriots are currently sitting with an overall record of 40-1, a school record. The Patriots will play at the Alamodome on Thursday, March 7, as we will be facing Killeen’s Ellison High School Eagles.
